Hi all, What's happening with Joseph Jarman? He missed the first night of the Vision Festival where he traditionally leads off and nobody seems to know why he didn't make it. Hope he's OK. That's news to me. The only thing I've heard about Jarman recently is that he's just recorded two new albums with the Art Ensemble of Chicago for the Pi label, one of which will be released towards the end of August. (Around the same time, ECM is going to issue its own new Art Ensemble disc, a tribute to Bowie recorded by Mitchell, Favors and Moye before Jarman rejoined the group.) Out of curiosity, does anyone have a source for recent back issues of the Italian magazine Musica Jazz? An issue from earlier this year -- March, perhaps -- came with a live Art Ensemble disc recorded on Bowie's final tour. I'd love to track that down. Purely by coincidence, I've just spotted a Jarman mention on the Jazzcorner bulletin board. He was spotted in the audience at the Muhal Richard Abrams concert on Friday night, so apparently he's okay. Maybe he just forgot about the Vision Fest opening? (I'm serious - I once attended a News for Lulu gig that George Lewis reportedly forgot to come to town for; Curtis Fowlkes did an admirable job of filling in with only one rehearsal.) Anything could have happened. A friend of mine was telling me (a few weeks ago) a story about Derek Bailey forgetting to bring his guitar to a gig. * David Beardsley * microtonal guitar * http://biink.com/db
