Hi all,
I moved to Tokyo a few months ago, and I'm still looking for a good record store. I could find lots of interesting stuff in Tower, Disk Union and other big chain stores; however I'm looking for places more like Other Music, Aquarius, DMG, etc. I'm especially interested into vinyl. Any advice?
I'm also going to Singapore for a few days, I think records will be cheaper there, so pointers about this place are also welcome.
Thanks in advance -- Julien
Don't know anything about Singapore, but in Tokyo Modern Music (the shop run by the PSF label) in Meidaimae (on the Keio line out of Shinjuku) would be an obvious choice. As would the Los Apson shop in Shinjuku. There's directions and maps for these shops and a few other good ones here: http://www.ongakuweb.com/ If want to get really serious about your record shopping in Japan, you need to pick up the Record Map book. This is a big, thick, annually updated directory that contains information, maps and addresses for virtually every record store, new, specialist and second-hand, of any note in the entire country. The Tokyo section alone will occupy you for at least a few weeks if you want to visit every one... It's in Japanese only, so you may need to find a translator. There's a cover shot of the 2003 edition here: http://www.amazon.co.jp/exec/obidos/ASIN/4313881034/ref%3Dbr%5Flf%5Fb%5F2/24 9-5080542-5453936 Happy hunting! Alan Cummings
