Two years ago, my friends treated me to a Grant Lee Phillips show at the Bowery Ballroom. I have since seen his tour with Kristen Hirsch and John Doe (very disappointing), but I'll never forget that first show. He started out expectantly poppy but enjoyable. Then, on song three (don't know the name), it became magical. He had this scruffy looking backup band straight from the social club that seemed to have a direct connection to his mind...seamless. Center stage, ten feet from Grant Lee, I was hypnotized and haunted by his voice (was it really just him singing???). I have never been so moved by a performer, never so captivated as I was that night. I can't even remember what he sang, but I find myself telling people about the show hoping they'll see him some time and experience the same thing. It was by far the most memorable music gift I have received. Thanks for sharing your gifts on this list! Cheers, Mikail __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
