Philip K. Dick has come up here often enough, so I don't feel bad asking. What short story was the basis for the recent Cruise/Spielberg snoozefest, Minority Report? -- Caleb Deupree cdeupree@erinet.com
The movie is the same title as the short story. Easiest place to find it is _Collected Stories of Philip K. Dick: Volume 4_. The film is fairly true to the spirit of the story, except for the obvious action scenes. For awhile the full story was up on http://www.philipkdick.com Matt "Caleb T. Deupree" wrote:

Hello, ....actually, there is a movie tie-in release of the story that I saw in a local bookshop. The format is memo-pad style, w/ glossy hard-covers. Nothing spectacular, but I liked the fact that it stopped at the obligatory "now a major motion picture" reference, avoiding pictures of the actors like most movie tie-in books do. It's probably old news by now, but the new "Bookforum" has a nice piece on Dick by Jonathan Lethem. I remain.... Joseph NP: "Music From Yemen Arabia- Samar" LP NR: William H. Hi, BTW - I've heard once that someone in Australia was filming 'A Scanner Darkly'. Any info about that project? Marcin From: "Matthew Moffett" <fkmoffet@erols.com>

That one's been floating around for awhile. Variety recently did an article on PKD and the success people are having by turning his ideas into movies. They listed _A Scanner Darkly_ as being in the script stages with Linklater via Warner Bros Studios. So, essentially, it could be out in three years or never. I'm still waiting for Vonnegut's Breakfast of Champions. Marcin Gokieli wrote:

Are you serious? There was a movie adaptation in 1999, directed by Alan Rudolph and starring Bruce Willis and Nick Nolte. I haven't seen it, but it actually looked terrible -- so maybe you're waiting for a better "Breakfast of Champions" ? Julien
that book would be nearly impossible to bring to the screen. it wasn't particularly well done, but i can't really say i was disappointed, because i wasn't expecting much. re-read the book. sean -----Original Message----- From: zorn-list-admin@mailman.xmission.com [mailto:zorn-list-admin@mailman.xmission.com]On Behalf Of Pom Sent: Thursday, June 27, 2002 12:32 PM To: Matthew Moffett Cc: zorn-list@mailman.xmission.com Subject: Re: minority report & pkd On Thu, Jun 27, 2002 at 12:31:22PM -0400, Matthew Moffett wrote:

I love "Breakfast of Champions," one of the first literary books I read as a teen, but I can't imagine it translating well to the screen. "Cat's Cradle" would be better, assuming no one is going to tell me it's been done. At 12:26 PM 6/27/2002 -0400, Sean Westergaard wrote:
