Re: Evan Parker + Derek Bailey
Hello,
I heard from a very reliable source that Evan Parker managed to get some old master tapes out of Derek Bailey and will be releasing them on his own record company. Pretty spetacular news, no?
The old webpage at the Emanem site for PSI (EP's company) had a quote from Parker about wanting to put out some older material, including getting the disc with George Lewis back in print. He wasn't specific about which one, but there are three I know of (From Saxophone and Trombone duo, Hook Drift & Shuffle quartet, and a company disc) and all are on Incus. It may be that Parker already owned the tapes for the duo or quartet records, rather than having left them with Bailey/Incus.
Did anybody manage to listen to the new Han Bennink & Evan Parker CD?
Yeah, I've played it two or three times, and Iike it. Nothing unexpected. The first track I really liked, with EP on tenor. Othr than that, it isn't any thing really special.. I hear it more as Han reacting to Parker, rather than a real give and take collaboration. Parker has his thing that he does, and Han fills in the blanks, accents, etc. (of course, this is the same way I feel about Parker in almost any duo situation) Dan
