Re: Jews and Arabs and Gypsies with horns! (Robert Pleshar)
Who would say that a discussion would be opened for Boban Markovic orchestra. Anyway, i had the opportunity to see this orchestra playing live with the Hungarian violin virtuoso Lajko Felix. You'll never believe what these brass/string instruments are capable of until you see these 2 parties playing together. Also an event to be seen is the festival at Gucha where these gypsy orchestras are performing and competing with each other. Best Nenad
the Hungarian violin virtuoso Lajko Felix.
This young fellow is just amazing. I have his first CD, _Es Zenekara_ (which I believe simply means "and his band"), released maybe five years ago by a small Hungarian label, and it just burns up the speakers. Wonder if it ever got re-released on a label with international distribution? The world deserves to hear it! S -- Stephen Fruitman Dept of Historical Studies Umea University SE-901 87 Umea Sweden

============== Felix Lajko is really fantastic musician but rather hungarian than Hungarian. He was norn and lives in the northern region of Serbia called Vojvodina, before the WW I part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire and after the Trianon Agreement oncorporated to the Kingdom of Serbs, Croatians and Slovenians. I'd like to strongly reccomend Lajko's CD Koncert '98 which I purchased few month ago through the http://www.tamizdat.com/ His CD with Boban Markovic is also worth listening. Funny trivia - Boban Markovic Orkestar played on the last album of Riblja Corba (Fish Soup) famous (or notorious YU-Rock group), favourit band of Slobo Milosevic Jerzy
