Hi all, The Miller Theatre at Columbia University will present the U.S. premier of Zorn's "Hermeticum Sacrum" as part of a concert of sacred music at St. Paul's Cathedral, Saturday Nov 8 at 7:00. It's scored for wordless chorus, percussion, harp, and vintage organs, and, somewhat ironically given the context, it's supposed to be along the lines of IAO -- "pagan mystical musings in the shadow of Aleister Crowley." Other pieces on the program: Edgard Varèse: Ecuatorial Olivier Messiaen: "Dieu Parmi Nous" from La Nativité du Seigneur Igor Stravinsky: Introitus Carl Ruggles: Angels Charles Ives: From the Steeples and the Mountains and Processional: Let There Be Light tix $30 / $18 student. www.millertheatre.com (full disclosure -- I don't work for Miller, but I'm married to somebody who does...I'll keep it OT...Last week's Threadgill concert was great though quite short -- he really is much more fun when working with a bigger band, a nice marriage of the Zooid ethnic flavor and Very Very Circus whimsy...)
