From: Tim Blechmann <TimBlechmann@gmx.net> i need some recommendations! i am sometimes working for a record store and i need some recommendations which tzadik cds i can play in the store. some kind of easy listening tzadik.
My favorite Tzadik release is "Patterns of Plants" by Mamoru Fujieda. It is mellow and would probably fits your criteria. But his other (earlier) release on Tzadik isn't worth listening to once you have heard "Patterns of Plants". Other mellow (and good, not just mellow) Tzadik releases "Redbird" by John Zorn "Ballads" by Derek Bailey David K. N.P.: Evan Parker & George Lewis "From Saxophone & Trombone" (Incus)

I sometimes find Redbird grating. Even though it's very quiet and mellow the chords have incredible tension in them (this is very common in Zorn's classical I've found). I find myself feeling the tension between the notes. That bothers me when I'm tense and want to relax. I do love this piece immensely, though. I just can't listen to it when I need to relax. I'm curious is this an intentional thing on the part of Zorn (the tension) or is just what sounds good to him? Zach
