To me it was my personal musical highlight this year, I'm curious what could be better :)
I can think of a lot of things that I've seen in the last six months that were better. Off the top of my head: Satoko Fujii Quartet, The Necks, Spring Heel Jack w/Wadada Leo Smith, Burkhard Stangl/Michael Moser... I've been disappointed the last two times I've seen Zorn perform (the other time was "The Gift" at the Barbican). Where's the sense of danger, of something *new*? I'm not holding out much hope for the Electric Masada gig but I may be wrong. Moan, moan, moan. Alastair -- Personalised email by http://another.com

It's funny I spent some years listening to Zorn & Co. and always liked hiphop. Now I'd prefer SkratchPiklz-Set to most of the jazzmusic I've listened to spending hours and hours. But this Amsterdam-gig pinted me right to my cd-shelf and in the last days I listened more and more to that Laswell/Frith/ Zorn/...-things.

At least it was fun that and *how* JZ used his sax again. On one of the last gigs in cologne (Bar Kokhba) he just sat around with the sax in his hand, spoke to the audience: "Thank you for not smokin'" and before the next-to-last tune someone from the audience yelled: "Thank you for not playin' saxophone". So I was pretty happy, when he started to rock again.
Moan, moan, moan.
