In all fairness, the jazz world has long been weighed down by pretentious album titles that it's nice to see a little humor in there. There's historically been such a lack of it, especially in the titles. Carla Bley probably deserves mad props for bringing humor to the party.

It's not only titles -- it's the poetry/lyrics that sometimes accompanies these albums. Talk about pretense! Anyhoo, I have only heard one disc by Carla Bley -- "4x4" -- and absolutely love it. Can anyone recommend where I should go from here? Thanks, Tom

Eurpean Tour, Fleur Carnivore, Big Band Theory, Escaltor over the hill. Her work as arranger for Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra is also great. MG

Her work with Charlie Haden follows the line of "Musique Mecanique", which someone else already recommended. I think this is one of her most recommendable works, which shows both her skills as an arranger and her great compositive sense of humor.
