Finally got my copy of the Bookshelf on top of the sky DVD. I know this was discussed on the list before when the film did the rounds but for some of us this is our first opportunity to see it. As a fan I loved the great footage of rehearsals and performances from the last ten years and, when talking, Zorn is more open than I have ever read him in the press. For anybody still intrigued by Cobra there is no explanation of the piece but the rehearsal film is very enlightening. A couple of questions to those in the know. In the scenes where Zorn is talking about his life and work is he giving a talk or lecture? He seems to be looking around the room at a group. The whole structure behind the film (the film makers search for a way to film and ultimately interview John Zorn (which she never achieves) with Zorn teasing her with promises on her answerphone) seems a little mendacious when its Tzadik that have released the DVD. But I may be wrong. Richard Gardner
