V (debut! - feat. Tim Young) - Sat, June 28th @ Lo-Fi (Seattle + WEBCAST!)
Hi folks! Speaking of the great Naked City, webcasts, and such, note that guitarist Tim Young (Zony Mash), who recently warmed up Wayne Horvitz's NC chops with a performance of Torture Garden here in Seattle, will be debuting an ambitious new project next weekend, and it will be webcast! Check it out: (and note the mp3 demo download links!) "V" ~ psychedelic rock/pop orchestra debut! ~ plus a special appearance by FOOT IN MOUTH ~ dance/music ensemble ~ * Saturday, June 28th, 2003 * at Lo-Fi (www.lofiseattle.org) - a great new performance gallery - 429B East Lake Avenue East (Seattle) 10:00 pm PST / $8 at the door / 21+ beer / wine / cocktails (hosted bar) * Live net (audio) broadcast link: www.locusproductions.com V is an ambitious and joyous undertaking. This sixteen- strong (and growing) Seattle-based collective, led by Timothy Young & Paul Moore (personnel below), will bring to life the archetype of the grandiose psychedelic orchestra. Their lush, energetic, and elaborate arrangements will remind us all of the sweet love and singular oneness of our lives, dreams and/or vision quests. V's epic, rock-opera-esque songs aim to liberate us from the pestilence and oppression that has besieged us in these dark times. As one might expect, V's time- warping and multiple-genre-crossing musical influences are far too many to name or describe, but it can be stated that their emotional honesty, sincerity of purpose, moving grandeur, innocent eclecticism, and mythic evocation is akin in spirit to that of Neil Young, The Polyphonic Spree, The Flaming Lips, Os Mutantes, and T-Rex. It's an innovative integration of sound and movement that refreshingly redefines the means and ways in which live music can accompany dance. Foot in Mouth has appeared, to critical acclaim, at On the Side and at On the Boards' annual Northwest New Works festival ('03) - http://tinyurl.com/ez9o - and is set to perform at this year's Bumbershoot and TBA (Portland Institute for Contemporary Art) festivals. My sentiments exactly.... ;-) Also fun were those "Pretty Woman" guitar licks that Frisell was playing when I tuned in....what song was that? Whatever the case, times like these make me say: "WOW" (gotta love this internet technology!)
