Hi, Since 2003 seems to be almost over financially speaking for me, here's my list too. In no particular order, except for the first one. 1. Eyvind Kang "Virginal Coordinates" (I Dischi Di Angelica) I think it's even better than his previous releases although it goes similar ways as "The Story of Iceland". Medieval references, classical composition, minimalism, epic sound, ... - Adachi Tomomi Royal Chorus "Yo" (Tzadik) Great a cappella septet. Lots of fun and unbelievable precision. Miles away from Zuvi Zuva. - Eugene Chadbourne/René Lussier "L'Oasis" (Victo) Amazing C&W/improv show. Extended techniques and formal mastery and lots of fun throughout. - Chien Yin-Chen "Purr" (Tzadik) Excellent chamber music. Very dynamic, rythmic and varied album. - Satoko Fujii/Tatsuya Yoshida "Toh-Kichi" (Victo) Something between post-taylorian piano and Ruins' frantical hardcore. As good as you might expect - Pram "Dark Islands" These guys keep doing better and better with this sort of outer-space/horror movie pop. - Marc Ribot "Scelsi Morning" (Tzadik) Much in the vein of Shrek, but more chamber-oriented. As noisy and dark as Ribot can get. - Fred Anderson "Back at the Velvet Lounge" (Delmark) - Paul Shapiro "Midnight Minyan" (Tzadik) The typical jazz/klezmer blend but really enjoyable. - Julius Hemphill "One Atmosphere" (Tzadik) One of the best Hemphill I've heard. Very dynamic with a string quartet plus piano, a trio with the great Marty Ehrlich on Flute and a lovely wind septet. - John Zorn "Filmworks XIV: Hiding and Seeking" (Tzadik) It's not groundbreaking but undoubtely beautiful music. What else can you ask for? - John Zorn "Chimeras" (Tzadik) Really intrincate and dark. Although it's not my favorite Zorn side, it's still haunting to listen to this. - Active Ingredients "Titration" (Delmark) The first project by drummer Chad Taylor. A good meeting of Chicago and NYC greats in an excellent free-jazz album. - Various "Japanese New Music Festival European Tour 2003" (Magaibutsu Limited) Non-2003 albums: -Burt Bacharach "After the Fox" (Ryko) -Les Baxter "Tamboo/Skins" (Collectables Records) -The Beach Boys "Smile" (Sea of Tunes) -Anthony Braxton "For Alto" (Delmark) -Anthony Braxton "3 Compositions of New Jazz" (Delmark) -Alice Coltrane "Journey in Satchidananda" (Impulse!) -Alice Coltrane "Ptah The El Daoud" (Impulse!) -John Coltrane "Live in Japan" (Impulse!) -Frank Comstock "Music from Outer Space" (Warner) -Martin Denny "The Exotic Sounds of Martin Denny" (Capitol) -Martin Denny "Exotica/Exotica 2" (Scamp) -Luc Ferrari "Cellule 75" (Tzadik) -Bruce Haack "The Electric Lucifer. Book 2" -Dick Hyman "Moon Gas" (MGM) -Jimmy Lyons "Other Afternoons" (BYG Actuel) -Hugo Montenegro "Come Spy With Me" (RCA Spain) -Hugo Montenegro "More Music from the Man from U.N.C.L.E" (RCA Spain) -Lou Reed "The Blue Mask" (BMG) -Steve Reich "Variations for Winds, Strings and Keyboards" (Deutsche Grammophon) -Steve Reich "Music for 18 Musicians" (BMG) -Raymond Scott "Manhattan Research Inc." (Basta) -Raymond Scott "Soothing Sounds for Baby Vols. I-III" (Basta) -Morton Subotnik "Silver Apples of the Moon/The Wild Bull" (Wergo) -Various Artists "In His Own Sweet Way: A Tribute to Dave Brubeck" (Avant) -Charles Wuorinen "Lepton" (Tzadik) -Bill Laswell "Invisible Design" (Tzadik) -John Zorn "New Traditions In East Asian Bar Bands" (Tzadik) Best, Efrén del Valle _______________________________________________________________ Yahoo!
