This may have been stated already, but just reading the quote that is given to us - he maybe commenting on the dietary changes that have taken place in Japan since the 60's or 70's. For instance more beef and McDonalds! But then again I haven't read the entire interview. Also one has to go beyond the language and cultural differences to understand what the other is saying. So I won't presume that there is any racial feelings from what I have read on this list. -- Tosh Berman TamTam Books http://www.tamtambooks.com

I read the interview -- yes, Patrice, I periodically buy a WIRE ;-) -- and found it more jingoistic than racist, statistics aside. Didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth, and I didn;t think he was taking aim against anybody else's race, just representing zealously for his own. Of course, if RJ Smith gets ahold of this, Keiji might be the new Professor Griff. skip h
Over my 40 years of record/CD buying I have developed a pretty foolproof scheme for discerning what recordings to buy before doing so. This list is proving to be a source of validation for my method, as I have heard a very tiny percentage of the rcordings being trashed here, and when everyone discusses what they like, I have heard a very high percentage of those. Excuse this moment of bragging, but really folks, the search for the lost chord is a pricey endeavor if you rush out and buy every piece of crap recorded.
