Hi, Talking about Radical Jewish Culture and jewish identity, did anybody watch "The Believer"? I saw it recently, and found it excellent. Very intellegent and thought provocation. However, also extremely complex and difficult, and several points I didn't quite get, to be honest. I wonder what Zorn would think about that film. It's sad that there is so few places where we can find out more about Zorn's idead on the whole "RJC" thing. And strange, in a way, I always concidered Zorn to be somewhat of an intellectual but he doesn't seem to like talking and hearing his own voice so much, which is quite unlike most intellectuals I know of. Cheers. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Photos is the easiest way to share and print your photos: http://photos.msn.com/support/worldwide.aspx
Hello, ....yr points on Zorn , for me at least, are right on target. For a large percentage of the time, he seems more interested in letting his music/projects do the talking. Certainly cool. However, something that I really like about Zorn is the fact that he's so open about his interests and influences. The lists of his current listening/reading/viewing at the Tzadik site haven't been updated in some time, but regardless, the very fact that he bothers w/ such a thing is very admirable to me. Not to mention that the number of releases under his name or shared by others that reference some previous artist/musician as inspiration reach into the double figures. This really isn't all that common in my experience, possibly because many musician's interests aren't as broad as Zorn's. Even if it's only a handful of people who are so grabbed by his work that they end up reading Genet, or watching Godard, or listening to Sonny Clark, it's still something that I get enthused about. I remain...
