I too can't rate HD high enough. He is an exquisite drummer. I love his stuff with Fred Anderson & Die Like A Dog. My first concert with Hamid (Hank Drake at the time) was June 19, 1976 at the World Surrealist Exhibition in Chicago with a group called "Sun Song" -- with him in the band was a young George Lewis and Douglas Ewart -- the first show to really open my ears to the wonders of improvised music.
