Fwd: Filmworks 13, hold the cheese
Hi,
Incidentally if you like that track, check out Evan Lurie's stuff for bandoneon (also involving Ribot), similar sounds, but less cheese...
I was actually listening to Lurie's "Pieces for Bandoneon" (Les disques du crèpuscule) yesterday and, well, it has some inspired moments but at some points the way the tunes develop seem to me a bit "hesitant". Of course, there are fine melodies there but I was expecting more. And unfortunately, Ribot's role is just supporting there. Can't say the same about "How I Spent My Vacation". One of my fave Tzadiks. Best, Efrén del Valle _______________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger Nueva versión: Webcam, voz, y mucho más ¡Gratis! While Pieces for Bandoneon has, as you say, interesting moments, his later bandoneon record (also with Ribot on nylon-string), Selling Water by the Side of the River, is uniformly superb. -- Caleb Deupree cdeupree@erinet.com
That disc is a little lacking, some tunes may be of interest if you're a Lounge Lizards fan and want to hear alternate versions of some of Evan's LL pieces... But I was thinking more of "Selling Water..." which is far more solid, as someone else mentioned.
