Re: whitey album - love cry want -fred frith reissue
As of a few years ago, the "whitey album" was floating around on compact disc, don't know if it is still available. Just wanted to say thanks for the suggestions on the Larry Young - Lawrence of Newark, and complete Mwandishi recordings (found them both in the used section yesterday). When looking for Love Cry Want however, I also came across an album entitled Love Surrender Devotion with John McLaughlin and Carlos Santana that was recorded around the same time. Was this a companion album of sorts, or completely unrelated. Either way, does anyone remember it or have any comments on it. Also, anyone here hear about a Fred Frith reissue album (containing old film score material)? Thanks, Nathan Just booked tickets to see ICP Orchestra here in Ann Arbor, MI.

The 2 discs are pretty far apart, stylistically. LSD (get it?, cool!), is mostly unbridled guitar wankery, with McLaughlin and Santana each trying to outdo each other in the name of spiritual extasy. Love Cry Want holds up much better.

It was quite hard to come by, I remember buying a Us copy for a friend in Paris for something like 30 or 40$... It was reissued, at least in Europe, by Universal along with their pre-Geffen back catalogue, and is readily available, even maybe at "nice price" or whatever they call it. It is also easy to come by here in Japan so I would guess it is indeed available. Julien
