Re: Really Eerie Music (R.E.M.)
I'll third the Penderecki Threnody. But speakin of Kubrick, what about Bartok's 'Music for Percussion, Strings and Celeste'? Also in the Shining, Ligeti's 2nd String Quartet and more Penderecki. and I was gonna say Messiaen's 'Quatuor pour la Fin du Temps' too. somebody beat me to it. You also might want to seriously consider some Giacinto Scelsi. The string quartets are pretty creepy. Stockhausen's 'Gesange der Junglinge' can send tiny birds of prey skittering through your nerves. Kaija Saariaho's got a nice slow, cold-ass creep going on, too. There's a record that's got Cutler, Hodgkinson and Dumitrescu performing their compositions with various ensembles. It can be eerie. the John Butcher and Phil Durrant duos have an under-the-skin intensity. --bob np: Topbill - Topbillion dollar breaks _________________________________________________________________ STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail
