Electric Masada last night
Anybody else catch the show at Tonic last night? It was my first time seeing them. They played hard, but they had a different line-up than usual - missing Medeski and with a young guitar player I'd never heard of named John D... something -- I didn't catch his name -- does anyone know who he is? I liked a lot of his playing, though I wish I knew what they sound like with Ribot. Somebody the other day mentioned a Miles electric sound, and I definitely heard that. I got the feeling they weren't in top form last night, maybe due to the new guitarist. Can any of you connaisseurs provide a broader perspective? Paul
Hello Paul, I couldn't make to show last night, but as far as I know the guitar player was Jon Madof. He recently released the trio CD Rashanim on Tzadik. Too bad I didn't have a chance to hear it too. Saturday, July 5, 2003, you wrote to me: PMS> Anybody else catch the show at Tonic last night? It was my PMS> first time seeing them. Unique is exactly the last thing I'd say about "Rashanim". It does sound the same as usual, but adding some sort of virtuoso fireworks and an unbearable prog-rock vein throughout and that's what you get. Those guys' playing is great but I think that's not enough to make an album good. I was worried when I read that he had sat in for Ribot w/ Electric Masada, to tell you the truth.
