"Voices in the Wilderness" and "Love, Madness, and Mysticism"
Hi, My most recent Zorn acquisitions are "Trembling Before G-d," and "Invitation to a Suicide." I bought the latter because I kept hearing the mention of the CD over and over from several posts on this forum. I was not disappointed! It's fabulous, and I've listened to it no less than 50 times in the past two weeks, I think. The bad news for my wallet is that my hunger for Zorn is growing. I've heard snippets of "Unknown Masada" on Barnes and Noble and feel that I must have it. However, I'm having a hard time deciding on one more CD to get. "Voices in the Wilderness" and "Love, Madness, and Mysticism" sound interesting from the reviews that I've read. However, I've heard none of the music, and I'm hesitant to buy it without hearing any of it at all. Neither Barnes and Noble nor Amazon seems to have any samples. Does anyone know where I might be able to hear some of it on the web? Also, does anyone have any recommendations of music that is somewhat in the same vein as Invitation to a Suicide, and Unknown Masada? Hi Jennifer and all,
"Voices in the Wilderness" and "Love, Madness, and Mysticism" sound interesting from the reviews that I've read. However, I've heard none of the music, and I'm hesitant to buy it without hearing any of it at all. Neither Barnes and Noble nor Amazon seems to have any samples. If you agree to 30 second-samples, you can check towerrecords.com or fye.com. You'll definitely find something there. But I don't think you'll get an impression of "Love, ..." from such a brief example of the music there. It's certainly an amazing album that I'd choose over "Voices" without hesitating. The latter is not bad, of course, but I find a lot of interest in the chamber music album.
Also, does anyone have any recommendations of music that is somewhat in the same vein as ÂInvitation to a Suicide, and ÂUnknown MasadaÂ?
That's hard to say. I'd definitely check some Filmworks, probably the latest, "Hiding and Seeking" if you like the quietest Zorn. Or perhaps "Masada Guitars", any of the Bar Kokhba double-cds, "The Gift", "Filmworks X", "Duras", ... I think I'm making it worse...
