...in the spirit of the current thread, what would folks like to see make it to DVD? Here's some of mine....
"Contempt", "One Plus One", "Band of Outsiders", + early shorts (J L Godard)
And the strange thing is that, as far as I know, the Godard movies are not even released on DVD in France... I'd add to this "Une femme est une femme" and "Le weekend".
"Solaris" & "Stalker" (Tarkovsky)
These are available from Ruscico, and at least their edition of "Solaris" is definitive. There's much debate over their release of "Stalker", because they decided to change the soundtrack. Here's the DVDs I would like to see: "El Topo", "The Holy Mountain" (Alejandro Jodorowsky) "Viva la muerte" (Fernando Arrabal) "The Horrible Dr. Hichcock", "The Ghost" (Riccardo Freda) "The Long Hair of Death" (Antonio Margheriti) "Four Flies on Grey Velvet" (Dario Argento) "Dracula contra Frankenstein", "La comtesse perverse", "Maldicion de Frankenstein", "Two Female Spies With Flowered Panties", etc. (all Jess Franco, even though there will be no shortage of Jess Franco DVDs once Bill Lustig's Blue Underground label gets started...) "La vampire nue", "La rose de fer", "Les trottoirs de Bangkok", "Les echappees" (Jean Rollin; I think "Les trottoirs..." might actually be released this year) "Kill Baby Kill" (Mario Bava, but this is finally going to happen in the fall) "Diabolik" (Mario Bava) "The Night Evelyn Came Out Of The Grave" (Emilio Miraglia) "The Black Belly of the Tarantula" (Paolo Cavara) "Le moine" aka "The Monk" (Ado Kyrou) "Brides of Blood" aka "The Island of Living Horror" (Eddie Romero/Gerardo de Leon) "F for Fake", "Chimes at Midnight" (Orson Welles) "Black Candles" (Jose Larraz) any Alain Robbe-Grillet movie... At a positive note, it seems that Jack Smith's "Flaming Creatures" will be released on DVD in 2003. And, even with a list like the one above, I should not be complaining, because this really is the Golden Age for DVD releases. There are some Godard films on DVD in France, the early ones especially: "A bout de souffle", "Pierrot le fou", "Le mépris", "Le petit soldat", "Made in USA", ie the early films (those are the ones that I am aware of). I do own "Contempt", but it's a very cheap edition with no fancy features (that's not too bad) and no other languages than French (I don't remember any subtitle). So you'll have to work on your French. The good news is that they can be found for next to nothing on the web (I can provide addresses if you're interested). As for the shorts or the other films you mention, I am not aware of their availability on DVD. Julien

Have you ever seen any of them on video? I also love his '60s movies (TRANS EUROPE EXPRESS (sp?), L'HOMME QUI MENT, etc). Not as excited by the later ones (L'EDEN ET APRES, N TIENT LES DES, LA BELLE CAPTIVE, etc), but it was a long time since I watched them (I found his infatuation with young attractive girls a little bit annoying, I am sure he had fun making them...).
