According to everything I've read, the set will include the original studio recording of 'A Love Supreme' and the single live performance of the entire suite from Antibes that's been available as a bootleg for some time now, along with "previously unreleased material." Until now, I hadn't seen anything that definitively asserted the two movements of 'A Love Supreme' recorded with Davis added, one of which also included Shepp, would be be that "previously unreleased material," but nothing else makes sense and the note from Jack Lefton on rmb seems to confirm it, since he's quoting the Verve website. (I confess I left rmb some time ago). Despite equally persistent rumors to the contrary, I've always assumed that those tracks still existed, and in an interview last year, Shepp told me a Japanese collector had played them for him! Here's hoping that it's finally true -- though having said that, I'm not sure just what Shepp (a player and thinker I admire greatly) would bring to 'A Love Supreme.' Now Pharoah, that would have been something else entirely... Wonder what else Ravi Coltrane's got kicking around in the closet and under the bed (which is where most of these new tapes are coming from)? Steve Smith ssmith36@sprynet.com NP - Maurice Ravel, 'Daphnis et Chloe' - Cleveland Orch/Maazel (Decca)
Now if we could only get Ravi to go to Ornette's house and find out what *he* has saved under his bed. (Sorry Skip). Ken Waxman --- Steve Smith <ssmith36@sprynet.com> wrote:

Yes, I'm pretty sure that other bonus *will* be the movements with Shepp. I hope it won't be too anti-climactic... Alan Lankin -- lankina@att.net Jazzmatazz http://jazzmatazz.home.att.net
