That's a good question: When did Rolling Stone turned bad. As a teenager and a young (to old) little tot I was raised with that magazine. I think sometime during the late 70's it turned into a mouthpiece for the mainstream. They did have Tom Wolfe, Hunter S. Thompson - but when Jann Werner (is that is name?) moved to NYC and sort of got into the 'society' thing - his magazine changed. Also I think Rolling Stone was sort of 'cool' towards the coming Punk scene in NYC and London. I don't think Jann got into that scene whatsoever. Also it is amusing that Jann (who rarely writes reviews or anything for that matter) wrote this rave review (five stars) for Mick Jagger's last solo album in his magazine . So personally I think he's stuck in another era - an era that is not that interesting. -- Tosh Berman TamTam Books http://www.tamtambooks.com
