Just been listening to Curlew's new CD: Mercury. I am sure Steve is too shy to trumpet how good this recording is on the list but I warmly recommend it. Its rockier than Meet the Curlews and tighter as a band. Davey Williams has gone to be replaced by Dean Granros. I don't know anything about him but he fits like a glove. There is a gentle shimmering solo slide intro at to the last track that is gorgeous without any sign of saccharine. The second major change is the re-introduction of keyboards with Chris Parker adding more texture to the sound. Underneath all this the bass and drums have really learned to lock together to make a firm foundation for the leaders. The result seems to leave George Cartwright happier to sit back, at times, and let the band blow. IMHO anybody on this list would enjoy this music. Richard Gardner
