I'd say that a number of Jack Kerouac's works would fit the bill
here. Some other favorites:
- Geoff Nicholson "Flesh Guitar" (a personal favorite)
- James S. Rich "Cut My Hair"
- Bill Flanagan "A&R" (savagely funny)
- Tom Perrotta "The Wishbones"
- Jack Fuller "The Best of Jackson Payne" (good mystery book)
- Mark Shipper "Paperback Writer" (hilarious and sadly out of print, I think)
Some would say that Albert Goldman was a fiction writer too (and not a good
one either).
Best,
Jason
