Some of the last Zorn albums would fit right into the livingrooms of some McDonald eaters, it's just not brought to the public as much as Wynton, Micheal Jackson or others. Also Tzadik disks are pretty expensive, i have to listen to it twice before deciding to buy one. Buying music from big corporations is so much cheaper.
I've always found Tzadiks to be a about $15 every where I've seen them. This is competively priced with major label albums. Screwgun records are even cheaper...c'mon $30 for 5 CDs!!! You can't beat that with a stick. The SYR albums are much cheaper than the Geffen discs (save the reduced price back catalouge titles). The double CD is about the same price as "NYC Ghosts and Flowers" or "Murrey Street." On the other hand, I don't quite understand the multi-CD Tzadiks being double, triple, etc the single CD price. No other record companies do that, to my knowledge. BTW, agreed on the comment about some of Zorn's recent work fitting into a more mainstream taste. I wouldn't want it advertised heavily, though. Part of the fun of the music I love is finding it; if it was handed to me I wouldn't feel as attached to it. Zach
