Talking about Glass there is a very good record of his early compositions: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ *** - MUSIC IN THE SHAPE OF A SQUARE: Philip Glass 1/ Music In Similar Motion (1969) (Glass) 12:38 2/ Strung Out (1967) (Glass) 14:28 3/ Piece In The Shape Of A Square (1968) (Glass) 11:27 4/ Gradus (1968) (Glass) 10:19 5/ Music In Contrary Motion (1969) (Glass) 28:35 Alter Ego: Manuel Zurria (flute), Paolo Ravaglia (clarinet), Francesco Peverini (violin), Francesco Dillon (cello), Oscar Pizzo (keyboard), Gianluca Ruggeri (marimba). 2001 - Stradivarius (Italy), STR 33602 (CD) Note: (3-5) are first recordings of these pieces. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ What makes the record very special (besides the first recordings), is that it was recorded live in 1999 in Italy. The program of the concert and the setting were the ones used by Glass for his debut concert in NYC in 1969 at the New York Film Makers' Cinemateque! The interpretations are quite different from the originals, for example, the speed of execution is slower. Lovers of early Glass should enjoy that record. Patrice. PS: "Music In Contrary Motion" is, I guess, the ensemble version of "Contrary Motion".
