Does anyone know anything about the Cecil Taylor double LP coming out on Get Back? There's some debate around here as to whether it's really live in Paris in 1964, and I don't really want to drop $23 to find out the truth.
I don't blame you. I've never heard of any live recordings of Cecil that date from 1964, Paris or otherwise. The recording previously issued under that title by Black Lion (and on BYG as 'Student Studies') was from November 1966 and features Alan Silva (who is not mentioned in the Forced Exposure news blast) in addition to Taylor, Lyons and Cyrille. This must certainly be that, and I can only wonder if Get Back has managed to improve on the reviled Black Lion CD issue, which was poorly transferred from a noisy vinyl copy. Good performance, though, and some really unusual music, even by Taylor standards. I seem to remember Cyrille playing tubular bells at one point, but it's been a while...
