Hi Arthur, I listened to it yesterday, together with Wayne Horvitz' "Circus" and my advice is just don't buy it. London's I found to be "more of the same", that is, klezmer tunes, large (and impressive) ensemble but this time with a clear electric Miles flavor and less of his usual festive "attitude", maybe more introspective (clearly avoiding the word "boring" here). And the Horvitz album is an amalgam of just everything you can imagine, from folkie tunes to jazz, funk (pretty cheesy, btw), electronica and chamber music. Should be hilarious at some points, but I didn't see what's so funny. Additionally, his regular collaborating musicians are not my cup of tea. Frisell does some nice playing and Kang is also good on a few tunes. Other than that... To tell you the truth, I've never really been a fan of the guys, so I might not be a very good reference for you. And since you mention it, I wouldn't have any problems with "Filmworks CLVII". It's definitely a very enjoyable side of Zorn's catalogue, and a indeed a very good one for neophites, specially considering the stuff he's been doing lately. "Filmworks XIII" is not as interesting as "Elegy", imho, but it's engaging and beautiful music, which should be enough. I don't know, maybe we weren't ready for this more accessible side. But sooner or later a new NC live will come out, and our mailboxes will have a hard time, don't worry! Best, Efrén del Valle n.p: Peter Brötzmann Trio "For Adolphe Sax" (FMP, 1967) Hi, Hm, no comments on "Scientist At Work" by Frank London? As far as I know, this is the first time ever that Zorn has done a CD only of remixing and overdubbing someone else's work, so I expected more interest here on the list. At least this seems to be one case where Zorn isn't just mindlessly repeasting himself as people have complained about "Filmworks XXXVVVIII" and the essential "Masada live in Zorn's Kitchen vol. 78"... Eh? Or do I really have to buy the damn thing myself!? ;-) _______________________________________________________________ Yahoo! Messenger Nueva versión: Webcam, voz, y mucho más ¡Gratis!
