<<They all pale in comparison to Open, Coma. Wonderfully detailed; balancing composition and improvisation in probably one of finest ways I've heard.>> Really? My fave of his releases last year was Science Friction, by far. I also love, in addition to Paraphrase's Please Advise, all the Bloodcount CDs on Screwgun and the CD on Thirsty Ear (best in the 'Blue Series' by a long shot, if you ask me). I don't own all of Berne's stuff but feel like he got progressively better and better up til the mid-late '90s, then released a bunch of amazing things right together ... and he's still pretty much on that level. I always like the composing, but now and then (more on the earlier albums) found the performances a little stiff or mannered, which is something you can't say about Bloodcount or Paraphrase, or Hard Cell for that matter. I should buy one of his t-shirts, he has complained that they are selling slowly ... WY
