speaking of Jazz stores... has anyone been to the jazz&blues mart in Chicago. Supposedly it is the largest one in the country. Im heading down there this weekend, and want to know if its worth the time. Im refering to selection/prices etc... I hope its not like most places and fills up on fifty best of miles davis discs or sells Lacross for forty bucks... things like that. Thanx for any info

Yesterday's Boston Globe ran an article about the ills of the jazz biz: http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/216/living/Off_the_record+.shtml The classical business has gone through the same thing, and according to the Globe is now recovering somewhat, or at least adapting to the new business environment: http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/216/living/Classical_musicians_seek_new_wa... I note that both articles lob darts at Tower's industry-bullying approach to their cash flow problems. I think the jazz article is a tad light - surely there are successful indie jazz labels out there, and I know there are stores that sell lots of jazz.
