I've just got to wade in on this drummer subject. Bozzio is definitely one I'd mention. His album with David Torn and Mick Karn is excellent. I've always considered Bill Bruford a favorite. He has such a broad dynamic range. His most recent Earthworks incarnation is worth listening to. I just picked up Arcana with Tony Williams, Bill Laswell, et al., and find his playing to be quite tasteful. Unfortunately one of his last recordings. Billy Cobham has always been incredible to watch. Amazing and he makes it look so easy. Growing up, Ginger Baker was my hero although he has gone in a direction that I find less than satisfying.
