I presume you mean "since the real world is not supporting such things, why should internet folks do so?" I'm well aware that techies are by and large no more interested in art than the world at large, but music fanatics, avant- and otherwise, seem to be pretty well-represented in the tech world, and I'm sure at least a few dozen of them stumbled into a pile of money. I heard off-list from someone who cashed out and started a label, so perhaps it's more common than I realize.
