speaking of Jazz stores... has anyone been to the jazz&blues mart in Chicago. Supposedly it is the largest one in the country. Im heading down there this weekend, and want to know if its worth the time. Im refering to selection/prices etc... I hope its not like most places and fills up on fifty best of miles davis discs or sells Lacross for forty bucks... things like that. Thanx for any info
*Definitely* worth the time. I tend to spend all my time in the avant and used cd sections and it takes me a good hour to get through it all. If you're looking for anything that's more in the 'jazz' line (which includes anyone from the ODJB to Sun Ra), plan on spending much more time. If you're looking for vinyl, plan on spending even more time. Call ahead and find out if there are any in-store shows. The last time I went there was an excellent Brazilian nylon-string guitar and wind duet. If you need help, the sales people are very knowledgeable and helpful. Check out their web site at http://jazzmart.com.cnchost.com/jrm.home.htm. If there's a better place in Chicago to get new music, I'd love to know where. -- Caleb Deupree cdeupree@erinet.com
