i'm afraid I can't impress you guys: must be around 700-800 cds ... but I'm (getting) quite selective.
first cd: don't know...
first tape: I remember being 10-11 years old and going to summer camp and impress everyone with my tapes with the stooges, the sex pistos and joy division (yes ... my brothers gave me a good music education, I still see myself as a kid making puzzles with the music of throbbing gristle and cabaret voltaire on ... I never recovered :-)
first LP: 'Surferosa' - The Pixies (that woman on that cover!!) and 'Death Valley 69' from Sonic Youth)

in early 2003 I went over the 8000 CD mark but haven't counted
since. But I don't have much vinyl left.....maybe 100 releases on
vinyl..mostly hardcore 7"
wanna know what I find funny? I'd bet less than 200-500 of the CD are
mainstream in ANY way. I don't know how many people come over, are amazed
by the wall of CDs, start
looking through it and get really confused, since
they haven't heard of any of it.
My first CDs (I bought 3 the day I got my CD play), which was either
1986 or 87, I don't remember exactly which year.
Number of the Beast by Iron Maiden
a Motorhead best of (they have about 20 best of releases)
and Holy Diver by Dio
was I a metal head? wait......am I a metal head?
I woke up this morning and put in the latest CD from Nasum, which is
amazing, AMAZING grindcore.....so maybe I am.
I've been in the process of going through the collection for last 4
months, pulling out stuff to sell...already have nearly 100 CDs in the sell
pile
