In my opinion obviously :) I've got all the official releases of Tim Berne and I love his music absolutely. I think that there's a continue evolution in his playing and writing so in every period there's good and bad (only good for me), in every case.... the best Tim Berne records ever is FRACTURED FAIRY TALES. Incredible energy, all the players at the top, fantastic. But if you want tlo explore the evolution of Tim I propose: The Ancestors (SPLASH RECORDS) - first period I can't put my finger on it (Miniature) Fulton Street Maul (columbia period, with a fantastic Bill Frisell) Fractured Fairy Tales (JMT and now Winter & Winter) The Paris Concert 1 (Bloodcount period) but all are really good Big Satan (Winter & Winter) Science Friction (last Tim Berne) and now two particularity: TIM BERNE/BILL FRISELL Thoretically The sevens I think are less representative of the "corpus" of Tim, perhaps The sevens is a new road, but at the moment is particular. It's ok? I hope, all the records are fantastic, only Paraphrase are a little less than other (not on stage!! If tou can take a look to to a show of this trio).
