Simplicity is kind of a relative thing. Could Stravinsky have made the point he was after in the Rite Of Spring as effectively if he had done it with less notes in the harmony and less polymetrical content? Probably not. On the other hand, statistical density doesn't assure quality. There's lot of of really crappy stuff that happens to be complex. The idea that complexity assures quality is about as accurate as saying simpler music is less good than music that makes its point with less notes and more tracable beats. Of course, if you're the type who associates "complex" with "challenging", you're likely not to understand that saying what you have to say in the most direct manner possible is the best way. You probably want the stuff to be as obscure as possible in the hopes that it will add to your ability to get you intellectual on. But it will forever deny you the pleasures of "Have Love, Will Travel" by Richard berry and the Pharoahs. skip h np: beau hunks SAXOPHONE SOC-TETTE
