I saw his show on Friday in Katowice (same place Zorn was in few months ago), and I must say, this is the end of my fascination of Dave Douglas. Don't get me wrong, I have ALL his records (but not Freak In), I started to listen to jazz after Masada and In Our Lifetime. But this stuff... I don't mind the funky stuff, but the semi-acoustic guitar pseudo-flamenco jazz fusion stuff was a crap. Pat Metheny can play something like that. It's smooth jazz. Not a real stuff. Music to seduce an innocent gir/boy by - yack! It was boring. And awfully sweet sometimes. I'm also supprised about everybody's enthusiasm for the "electronic" stuff from Ikue Mori and Saft. This was a child's play comparing to what's happening in electronics these days. Some nice, light "cosmic" sounds, nothing innovative. Dave is a talented composer and musician, no question, he can produce a "good" music (from arrangement view point etc), but we went into arena which is totally artificial to me... Regards Artur
