Hi, To me he can do no wrong - well almost. Even his worst albums have at least one gem. http://www.slipcue.com/music/brazil/veloso.html This is a good starting point to the albums check it out. Generally the reviewer is on the money - which I think might mean our views concur. Billy
I think Skip Heller once wrote on this list that Caetano Veloso seemed as though he could do no wrong (with the exception of autobiography, to touch back upon the "Ikue Mori Explains Self" topic under discussion). Well, for those who believe this claim, we now have an artifact to justify your love:
from the Dusty Groove mailorder site: "Caetano Veloso -- Todo Caetano (39 CD's & DVD) . . . CD . . . Universal (Brazil), 1960s/1970s/1980s/1990s (39CDs + DVD) Condition: New Copy Add ÝÝ View Cart ÝÝ Everything you'd ever want by Caetano Veloso -- wrapped up in a beautiful box set! This massive package is really wonderful -- and features all of Caetano's albums for Philips packaged in tiny 5" record sleeves, laid out in a metal box set that also includes a hardcover book with writings on the music in Portuguese. Plus, the set also includes a bonus DVD, exclusive to the set -- and the packaging of all albums is faithful to the rare originals -- such that Transa comes with a tri-fold cover, Araca Azul with a gatefold and insert, and so on. And if that's not enough, the set also includes the Japanese album of Singles by Caetano, featuring many rare non-album tracks from the classic years! The whole thing's simply amazing -- filled with some of the best work ever recorded in Brazil, and packaged in a way that is a fitting tribute to the genius of Caetano! Titles include Araca Azul, Transa, Cinema Transcendental, Tropicalia, Tropicalia 2, Domingo, Caetano Veloso (1969), Caetano Veloso (1971), Bicho, Joia, Uns, Velo, Cores Nomes, Circulado, and lots lots more! (Please note: This set is packaged in a way that is a bit self-destructive, and although the core contents are well protected, the metal box has caused some dings and marks on the outside. This seems to be a flaw with the item, and you should take note.)"
For those who are familiar with the Veloso, oeuvre, exactly how many mediocre albums or clunkers could one expect to find in this batch?
