I guess what I'm trying to say is that (especially for the music discussed on this list) at some point, there seems to be two viewpoints: music as art/communication/spiritual yogurt or music as commodity.
For artists to survive and devote all of their energies to creating sublime art, in a capitalist society, music is art and music is a commodity. I want to spend my money giving artists as much as I can so they don't have to drive cabs during time they could be creating. I can't stand getting music duplicated so that I don't have to buy it. It isn't right. It isn't fair, and it makes it more difficult for the people that are driven by unpopular aesthetics to survive. I want them to survive. I want to help them pay their bills. I want to hear what they create. It is my way of tithing.
