Sure. I bought "100% Cotton" and found it quite inconsistent. There's a relatively recent compilation on some German label that didn't do it for me either.
Apart from "Raumpatrouille", the only Peter Thomas CD that I would really recommend is the "Moonflowers and Miniskirts" compilation. It has some cool TV and film works, but its main attraction would have to be a number of *very* cheesy tunes such as "Vergiss mich wenn du kannst".
Sure. The panorama is quite sad nowadays. Danny Elfman looked promising some years ago, with that excellent "Nightmare Before Christmas" soundtrack and some other good stuff for Burton, quite amazing. But he seems to have lost his personality at some point in the way to the extent where you only recognize his personal touch at some given moments.
I think a band/project like Ulver is doing some commendable work in the soundtrack arena, but unfortunately it does not bring anything new to the scene. Having visited the Rotterdam Film Festival just a few days ago, one trend amongst East-Asian cinema appears to be the total absence of a soundtrack (other than diegetic sound, that is). It works quite well to have to concentrate on the visual aspects of a movie, without an often obligatory soundtrack forcing or even suggesting the mood that the spectator should feel.
I think it's going to be easier to get my hands on the cds than renting the movie here. In fact, I already found an internet retailer that stocks some promising recordings, "Rosemary's Baby/The Vampire Killers" among them.
What's the URL? I am still looking for a CD with Komeda's "Knife in the Water" soundtrack.
I've also wanted to watch that movie for quite a while, considering who the responsibles for the screenplay were, but I think this didn't even make it on VHS! They had some worn 16 mm copies in Argentina and maybe they will restore them, I don't know. Let's hope it will be different with DVD but we'll probably have to be patient.
It was shown on Arte not too long ago, so at least it is still out there and someone is realizing its importance. I doubt whether anyone in Argentina will bother to restore it, as the government has tried for years to suppress it. Frankco
