as this list's members are properly the most knowledgeable around, I'd like recommendations on some of abdullah ibrahim's work.
my favorites are the ones with his south african crew (recorded as dollar brand, mid 60's), particularly basil mannenberg coatzee on sax. my very favorite is soweto, possibly because it was the first one i heard. capetown fringe is another classic. both of those were originally on chiarascuro, but were also issued as a 3 LP box set with another album whose title escapes me now on audio fidelity. don't think they're on cd yet. not quite the same but also great is an album of duets with gato barbieri, originally called confluence (at least on the LP i have), but recently reissued under gato's name as hamba khale in fuel 2000's actuel series. sean
