For the last 10 years or so a small group of us fans of "Difficult Listening" here on Maui have been getting together most Friday nights and sharing our latest finds. About 4 years ago we discovered WFMU.org, more specifically the show called the Inflated Squirrel Carcass, which airs late late on the east coast -1am or so- but here conveniently at 9 or 10pm, depending on Daylight Savings... Anyways, our habit is now entrenched: at first it was having the web broadcast of WFMU playing while we listened to whatever new disc was brought that night AT THE SAME TIME, levels set about equal, so that, if both musics were unfamiliar, at times, and more often than not, the blend would work, miraculously. Now we don't listen any other way (on Friday nights at least). Sometimes it's with WFMU, but other times it's 2 CDs, or CD/tape or CD/musicvideo. Last week it was early Miles/Coltrane with the first two discs(1973) of the Miles Montreux set. Then it was DD's Freak In and Sun Ra's Solar/Myth. Of course it's sick and bad, but we're hooked. We can't stop, cause when it's good it's SO good. Hopefully the sin is its own penance, dan
