Seems like there were some fine Miles re-issues recently, but I don't know if they fall into the strict chronology of the year of our lord aught-two. The Fillmore sets with Wayne Shorter before Grossman filled his spot are something of a revelation (and if I remember correctly, those had never been issued previously). "Get up With it" is older news, but there's some ass-whuppin material on that. I like the busy-as-hell, murky jungle-fusion with skanky, electroconvulsive keyboard drones. hits the spot. Pretty much my favorite Miles period. Pete Cosey, Mtume, you know the drill.
The Fillmore set by the "lost" quintet is certainly a revelation, but from 2001. The wildest and most out I have heard any of the Miles bands of the period. It was brand new to official release, though I believe that bootlegs of this particular group have circulated for some time. It was elusive, but not nearly as so as Shepp Supreme. Truth be told, I'm much more satisfied by the lost quintet than the alternate A Love Supremes (the live version notwithstanding). Get Up With It is worth it just for "He Loved Him Madly." I'm waiting drooling in anticipation for the many time delayed Jack Johnson box (February they say). The Miles reissues have been some of the finest that I've heard; art, sound, liner notes, and selections are all top notch, IMH(probably ignorant)O. Zach
