Hey all: I had the opportunity over the weekend to listen to a couple of the new Derek Bailey cdrs, "Solo Guitar Series Number 1: In Church" and "Solo Guitar Series Number 2: South". They are beauties. South starts off with a 30-odd minute piece from Miami 1999 on electric guitar that epitomizes Bailey's melodious nature. If you wanted someone, who had no introduction to Bailey, to hear the "music" of Bailey, this is a perfect cd. As easy listening as DB gets. "In Church" is no less a pleasure. Perhaps, playing in churches puts DB in a reverent mood, but the playing is inspired and delightful. Can't go wrong with either of these. Now, I will have to pursue "Solo Guitar Series Number 3: Different Guitars", which was released November 18, I think. There is absolutely no difference in the quality of content between the proper cds released by Incus and the cdr line. There does seem to be a slight irregularity in the volume level on part of "South", but the content itself is exquisite. David K.
