well, the way i see it,the reason why no wave is popular again could be: 1)there was a very good article on no wave in The Wire (i believe last year) stating that it involved (or influenced) people who are doing very interesting things now adays (i.e. zorn and the providence, RI scene: lightning bolt, arab on radar, forcefield, etc.,) 2)weasel walter from the flying luttenbachers has a website up (of which i do not have the URL) called the new york no wave archive with a brief overview and great pictures 3)no wave seems to be a buzzword amongst the new Williamsburg, NY bands invading the scene. they drop it like crazy in interviews and shit (i think it's the "cool" thing to do). 4)on the other hand it makes sense for them to mention it because it was truly the last era of real creativity and excitement in new york. painting was popular, new music was popular, shitty places to live were abundant, etc. people could live for near nothing which means TONS OF ARTISTS in new york. 5)time is also due for the next generation of no-wavers. all those people who were involved in or dug the no wave scene are now older and they are beginning to catch some interest from the another group of young artists. as a very intelligent politician i am familiar with once said (;^) ) "it's time for a regime change". in new york that is. so we'll see how it goes, huh? we'll see if this new group compares to the old and if they even get the idea right. and if they get it totally wrong, how will things change and mutate? -adam morosky _________________________________________________________________ Add photos to your e-mail with MSN 8.
