I not only don't get but can't stand Michael Jackson's "Thriller." It has always really annoyed me. I don't actually like any of his solo work -- tho I do like Robbie Fulks' cover of "Billie Jean." Speaking of Jacksons: possibly one of the best bad videos ever was Rebbie Jackson's "Hot." It was so cheesy, and of course the song was an absolute winner for wretchedness. The lyrics were hilariously putrid. "Like a centipede that's hhhhhhottttt...." Que? I also loved the way she emphasized the two consonants in "hot," she seemed to be confusing enunciation with sexiness. Just endearingly awful. Somebody should cover that, although replicating such tawdriness would probably be as tough as a approaching a Bacharach song. (Luther Vandross is the definitive Bacharach interpreter, IMHO -- tho New Orleans' own Glyn Styler brings a special decadence in his versions of Bacharach.) Jim O'Rourke never did anything for me, either. Yawn. Parry
