If you're going to listen to Anaal Nathrakh, make sure you start with the song "Pandemonic Hyperblast", from their "Codex Necro" debut. When I first heard it earlier this year, I was jaded with black metal, after about 7 years of having a particular interest in that scene. That song made me think "this is definitely SOMETHING ELSE", they're definitely unparalleled in terms of sheer brutality. It's easily the most extreme song I've ever heard in the genre. Speaking of Mastodon, look Lethargy up. Lethargy was Brann Dailor's(Mastodon drummer) first band, from before he joined Today Is the Day. It's very technical, proficient grindcore. Definitely precursors to the current Dillinger Escape Plan/Botch style of music.
