Satoko will most likely bring her new CD released in Poland by Gowi Records (from Krakow), premiere this week. She will be here next week, I'll catch her in Warsaw and (I hope) Krakow. The new CD is promissing...
Ken Vandermark: I know the Vandermark 5 and the Territory Band, but this time he's coming over with School Days. Any thoughts on this group (I know the rhythm section from other CDs) and any of KV's other recordings?
DKV Trio is a must-have. Fantastic live, really, a great trio to watch night after night, seing how the music is developing... Spaceways Inc. is very accessible, funkty stuff, inspired by Sun Ra and Funkadelic (covers on first CD, Vandermark originals on the second). "Design in Time" - Ken Vandermark's Sound In Action Trio is very good, two drummers and Ken on reeds. Pretty much everything by Vandermark is good, this guy never goes below certain level... Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten and Paal Nilssen-Love are a fantastic section, I would love to see them again, Scorch trio was a bit disapointing this year in Saalflden, the guitarist was just... too much for me. But these guys with Vandermark... man, this will be great, I can bet! AALY Trio + Vandermark is also very powerfull, Gustafsson is one of the most expressive sax players... __________________________________________________________________ Artur Nowak [.com]
